hyperkin-retron-5

Retro gaming has certainly become one of the main focuses this generations with digital gaming stores(such as Nintendo’s Virtual Console, Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade) re-releasing retro games to a whole new market of modern gamers. Being a dedicated retro games collector, I believe that important retro titles such as the original Super Mario Bros. or Sonic The Hedgehog should always be accessible to future gamers, after all, old game systems would eventually be really hard to find.

Hyperkin is a company that is known for distributing famiclones(Unlicensed systems that run Nintendo/Famicom cartridges). Famicom is widely referred to as “Family Game” here in the Middle East region. Hyperkin are mostly known for releasing the RetroN3 which plays Sega Genesis/Megadrive,Super Nintendo and Nintendo cartridges all in one system. Yesterday, they revealed a new successor to the RetroN3, the RetroN5!

The RetroN5 is compatible with five different types of cartridges; Nintendo(NES), Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, Game Boy and Famicom(To avoid any confusion, Famicom and NES are basically the same system but have different cartridge pins to distinguish Japanese titles with American/European titles). This is one epic combination for console, a dream console I say!

Not only can It play all these cartridges but it can also output it on HDMI which would probably give it crisp sound and image. It will ship with two wireless Bluetooth gamepads, but you can use your original system controllers if you still have them lying around. Another thing worth noting is that you can cross-control, this means you could finally play Sonic The Hedgehog with an NES controller or Super Mario World with a Sega Genesis controller. According to what is revealed, it seems that there is an option to change the button mapping. Remember saving your progress in emulators through save states? Well you can do that now with your actual cartridges!

Like any retro gaming fan would be, I’m really stoked for this,. If you have a bunch of games lying around and you wanna relive some childhood memories, this may be your chance.

The RetroN5 is expected to be available around June-July this year for under $100

This was Mohammed Zubari, have a nice day!

Keep on gaming everyone.
