Xbox One: Controller hardware

The one thing the whole team agreed on while covering the announcement is how sexy the new Xbox controller looks. Quite an impressive streak of contoller designs by Xbox, someone up there should be getting his bonus soon!

Here’s what your fingers will be bashing on:

  • Non-removable battery
  • Impulse triggers
  • New D-pad
  • Wireless (duh)

Nice to see Microsoft fix that squishy d-pad, playing on that thing use to count as a handicap for the opponent. Impulse triggers will provide some form of feedback to your fingers, would be nice to simulate a real gun trigger, with the bit of resistivity and sudden click and all.

The non-removable battery is good and bad, but a step forward. The PS3’s control is convenient when you run out of AA batteries and left scavenging TV remotes, toys and …toys… unleashing the wrath of your loved ones. But a non-removable battery means no instant cool AA battery reload scene when you run out of juice, leaving you connected with that pesky short USB cable.
