Sony Wants More People to Buy PSVITA

Dark clouds have been brewing over Sony these days. Their massive loses, decline in sales, and laywoffs haven’t been good signs for the company. It seems now their latest star gizmo–the PSVITA–hasn’t been doing that well either. Oh, dear…

Fergal Gara who is the head SCEE VP has shared his thoughts on the current sate of the PSVITA.

We would love it to be selling more and we intend to make it sell more and help it sell a lot more.

Fergal admits that the lack of sales have been due to lack of games (obviously). Despite the gloominess he still feels positive about the PSVITA’s future with this year’s upcoming releases.

The key thing for the rest of the year is the key software drive for the console so as we look towards September, LittleBigPlanet, that really is taking the concept on another level because of the Vita functionality. And of course the other key big third party IPs – Call of Duty, FIFA, Assassin’s Creed – will do tremendous things for the Vita. So it’s our job now to take that strength of software and give people more reasons to buy.

The Vita definitely needs some games. Even though there are some good titles (Uncharted, Gravity Rush) it still needs more to survive. I honestly feel that Vita is going through what the 3DS went through with its lack luster launch of games, but look at it now!

This holiday season will definitely be a big test for the handheld and I honestly hope it passes with flying rainbow colours.  I mean, all that power and potential shouldn’t go to waste.

Speaking of potential, where are my extended remote play features, Sony?
