Games 12 is just around the corner so to get the hype wheel turning we’re gonna talk about some of the games that will appear on the show floor and tell you why you should be excited.

Dead or Alive 5—PS3, Xbox 360 (September 25, 2012)

The 3D brawler is back with more counters, kicks, and punches then you can ask for. DOA5 promises to bring back that 3D brawler fluidity the series is known for as well introduce some new mechanics:

  • Intense DOA Fighting: DOA5 expands the signature fighting style for which the series is known with a variety of new martial arts techniques and styles
  • Realistic and Sensual Graphics: Characters come alive with a new visual style combining stunning realism with a warm, naturalistic feel that conveys every facet of each character- from raw power to sleek sensuality.
  • Dream Lineup: Play  as Ryu Hayabusa, Hayate, Ayane, Kasumi, and Hitomi as well as numerous additional characters yet to be announced.
  • Interactive Blockbuster Stages: More than a backdrop, spectacular locations from around the world provide a changing and interactive showcase for deadly battles.
  • New Special Moves: Use power blows to interactively trigger the Danger Zone of a stage, including  crashing  cars,  collapsing  glaciers,  and  an  exploding  oil  rig-distract  your opponent or drive him into danger.
  • Online  Battles:  A  full-fledged  online  experience  awaits  players  that  allows  for  both beginners and experts to compete head to head in a variety of playing fields and battle modes.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than 5 years since we got the last DOA fighter. I’m really excited and seriously can’t wait to punch someone out the window again. KASUME, HERE I COME! (falling down)

Damage Inc–PC, PS3, Xbox 360 (2012)

Okay, this one is a bit different. Damage Inc will put us in the cockpit seat of a WWII fighter plane (Spitfire, anyone?) and let you fly in historical missions and make evil Nazis (and their followers) fall from the sky. The game will also sport different multiplayer modes such as:

  • Dogfight – – Dogfight other online players.
  • Team Dogfight – – Dogfight against another team to own the skies.
  • Survivor – – All players begin with a set number of lives and then fight until only one remains.
  • Team Survivor – – All players begin with a set number of lives, last team with lives remaining  wins.

A flying simulator/arcade is a rarity these days so I’m definitely checking this out, especially if it’s going to take advantage of Joystick peripherals.

DmC—PS3, Xbox 360 (January 15, 2013) and PC (2013)

The controversial new Dante in the Devil May Cry reboot (DmC) will finally be making its appearance in the region. I’m actually interested in seeing what players  think of him around here as I’ve heard mixed feelings. I’m personally a bit skeptical but mostly positive about this one, after all this game is being made by the same creators of Enslaved and Heavenly (two of my favorite games this gen).

  • Do it with style – Utilize Dante’s Angel and Demon powers to chain together ground-based and aerial combos to achieve the best style ranking.
  • Who is Dante? – Explore Dante’s early years in a gripping narrative featuring familiar faces from the series alongside all new characters.
  • Unbridled action – The intense and iconic sword and gun based combat returns with the addition of new weapons all designed to dispatch the demonic spawn back to hell with style and panache.
  • Retaining the Devil May Cry DNA – Capcom staff, including team members from previous Devil May Cry titles, have been assigned to the project from the outset to ensure DmC is a true addition to the Devil May Cry franchise.
  • Unrivaled production values – Ninja Theory will take advantage of the latest performance capture technology to deliver a level of character design.

If one thing the new DmC has is visual style. Gorgeous vistas, beautiful backdrops, stunning cutscenes, and an interesting soundtrack makes me very excited. Let’s just hope the combat & story is just as good.

Dishonoured—PS3, Xbox 360, PC (October 12, 2012)

This game seriously came out of nowhere. The first time I saw this was at E3 and I have to say that gameplay demo really blew me away. The various choices you can make in approaching your enemy really makes this title stand out from the crowd. I mean who doesn’t want to possesses a self destructive rat!

  • Improvise and Innovate Approach each assassination with your own style of play. Use shadow and sound to your advantage to make your way silently through levels unseen by foes, or attack enemies head-on as they respond to your aggression. The flexible combat system allows you to creatively combine your abilities, supernatural powers and gadgets as you make your way through the levels and dispatch your targets. Improvise and innovate to define your play style.
  • Action with Meaning The world of Dishonored reacts to how you play. Move like a ghost and resist corruption, or show no mercy and leave a path of destruction in your wake. Decide your approach for each mission, and the outcomes will change as a result.
  • Supernatural Abilities Teleport for stealth approaches, possess any living creature, or stop time itself to orchestrate unearthly executions! Combining your suite of supernatural abilities and weapons opens up even more ways to overcome obstacles and eliminate targets.  The game’s upgrade system allows for the mastery of deadly new abilities and devious gadgets.
  • A City Unlike Any Other Enter an original world envisioned by Half-Life 2 art director Viktor Antonov. Arkane and Bethesda bring you a steampunk city where industry and the supernatural collide, creating an atmosphere thick with intrigue.

Is anyone else getting a strong Deus Ex vibe out of this? It certainly gave me a dose except this time it’s all steam punk. That makes it a very good thing in my book.

Epic Mickey the Power of Two—Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U (November 18, 2012)

Warren Specter’s (Deus Ex) crazy Disney fantasy is back in Epic Mickey: The Power of Two. This time the duo will team up and explore more than “80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions.” The game will bring back the paint brush and thinner mechanic but will this time introduce Oswald and his powerful remote control allowing him to command electricity.

The game will make good use of the Wii Mote and Playstation Move motion controllers allowing for more precisive aiming when using your paint brush and thinner.

Rumor has it that Epic Mickey: Mirror’s of Illusion for 3DS will also be making its appearance at Games 12. This title has earned high praise for bringing back the good old 16-bit charming Mickey as well as being a true sequel to the Mickey Mouse Illusion series.

Lost Planet 3—PS3, Xbox 360, PC (2013)

Giant bugs, robots, guns, hooks, and weak spots. The Lost Planet is returning in what appears to be a reboot (or not quite considering this is a sequel or prequel if you look at the time line) ah, who cares as long as I blow some bugs with my giant Mech.

Lost Planet 3 delivers a mix of both first and third person action. Acting as a home away from home and offering protection from the ever changing climate, Jim soon discovers the utility rig’s array of tools are just as useful at taking out Akrid as they are at helping him fulfill his contract work. Outside the rig the action switches to third person with Jim at the mercy of the

elements. He’ll need to battle against hostile enemies with a mix of gun and melee based combat whilst surviving all that is thrown at him.

With a number of multiplayer modes and a compelling single player experience, Lost Planet 3 will delve deeper into the Lost Planet universe, uncovering hidden truths within the unique and dynamic environment of E.D.N. III.

LP3 will make its comeback to its snowy and extreme conditions and have a stronger emphasis on third person shooting. While the gameplay has given me a Dead Space impression I’m going to hold my judgement until I try out a demo.

Resident Evil 6–PS3, Xbox 360 (October 2nd, 2012)

The game that defined survival horror will be returning for its biggest entry yet. Resident Evil 6 will allow players take control of pretty much all (No Claire 🙁 ) of the big RE characters to take on the threat of the deadly new C-Virus.

  • Horror on a global scale – No longer confined to a specific location, the outbreak of the C-virus is worldwide with the action taking place in North America, Eastern Europe and China.
  • Multiple characters and intertwined storylines – Experience the horror playing as Leon S. Kennedy, BSAA member Chris Redfield, and son of Albert Wesker, Jake Muller; with their respective partners US government agent Helena Harper, BSAA member Piers Nivans and Sherry Birkin.
  • Not only does each story cross paths, but so does the action – At significant points when the narrative draws pairs of characters together, the all new Crossover mechanic allows up to four players to experience the horror together online.
  •  Solo or co-op – Resident Evil 6 delivers both single and two player co-op gameplay either offline or online.
  • A new challenge – Confront the results of the C-virus in all its varied and deadly forms. Zombies make a return to the Resident Evil series, but can now run, jump at players and even use weapons, making them far more challenging than in previous games. The enemy creatures known as J’avo first came to prominence in the conflict zone of Eastern Europe and have the ability to regenerate when injured; furthermore, if J’avo take substantial damage to a particular area they can mutate the affected body part into a variety of different forms, meaning players will have to rethink their strategy and adapt to this unpredictability. The C-virus has also given rise to the Chrysalide, which take the mutation process even further as they undergo a full metamorphosis; spawning a whole host of horrific creatures.
  • Play your way – Upgrade your character to provide faster reload speed, improved firepower or increase your health bar with the Character Skill system.
  • Vehicle based action – Resident Evil 6 will include gameplay sections featuring vehicles such as motorbikes, cars and snowmobiles.
  • Mercenaries returns – Players will once more be able to enjoy the highly popular Mercenaries Mode.
  • Redesigned control system – Resident Evil 6 features an evolved control system allowing players to shoot whilst moving; slide; roll in any direction and to take cover along with the addition of an enhanced melee attack.
  • Localised voice over – Resident Evil 6 will include fully localised voice over in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian as well as subtitles in Japanese, Russian, Polish, Brazilian and Portuguese.

This one really has me on edge. I tried the demo that came with Dragon’s Dogma and all I can say is that on one hand it seems they’re bringing back the slow paced horror the series was known for, but on the other it seems kinda…different. Let’s hope the latest demo build sets my mood straight.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengence–PS3, Xbox 360 (February 21, 2013)

Raiden is back as the main character and this time it’s not a surprise! Metal Gear Rising: Revengence is Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Vanquish) take on the MGS franchise allowing us to take on the role as the badass version of Raiden from MGS 4. The game will put a huge emphasis on slicing and dicing, cutting everything into little teeny weeny pieces. The game’s story will take place after MGS 4 and will touch on Raiden’s past so that gamers won’t associate him as “that guy we played as but didn’t know who he was.”

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013—PS3, Xbox 360, PC ( September 20, 2013)

The latest installment in the Pro Evolution soccer series has some gained some positive feedback. The game will finally be making a come back by going back to its roots as well as introducing new feature such as FullControl.

“We’re excited to take Pro Evolution Soccer back to its roots, which is all about freedom and control.” said Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is created, in part, by the vocal PES community, and with them, along with some new faces within the development team, we’re bringing in new features and gameplay mechanics that will invigorate the soccer community as a whole.”

The new FullControl (PES FC) will allow players take full control of the ball to give players a new experience not found on another Football (Soccor) game. Our GO member, Moneim (M3O) gave his impressions on the demo and thinks this one might the comback of the series.

Street Fighter X Tekken–PSVITA (October 25, 2012)

The flashy new brawler from the creator of Street Fighter will finally be arriving on the in the palm of your hands sometime this year. The game is built on a modified version of the Street Fighter 4 engine and will feature exclusive new characters just for the PSVITA.

If you also bought any DLC characters on your PS3 then you actually transfer them straight to your PSVITA via cross buy–God, I love that feature.

That pretty much rounds up all the games. Make sure to check the pic below to see the other giant line up of titles @ Games12.

Thursday can’t come any sooner…

A big thanks to Pluto Games for providing us with this list. It certainly made my day.
