PS4 Specs, DualShock 4 and “Stereo Camera”

In the event earlier, Sony revealed the power of the PlayStation 4. The console will pack a “familiar” x86 CPU architecture with a total of 8 cores, an 8GB GDDR5 RAM capable of transferring over 170GB per second and an “enhanced” graphics card, all packed in a “supercharged” PC architecture. While the specs may seem to be vaguely revealed, they are certainly promising considering all that Sony had showcased in the event.

Sony also showed us the new controller, the DualShock 4. Similar to the leaked photos, the DualShock 4 looks a bit more enhanced than the prototype. It features a touchpad in the middle, a share button and a PlayStation Move bar on the back. The share button makes it unbelievably easy to share clips of your gameplay online. Just press the button and it will record and share it in a glimpse. The glowing “Move bar” is used with the brand new “Stereo Camera.”

The Stereoscopic camera uses its two camera lenses to analyze the depth of objects in front of it, similar to how the human eye works. A really cool addition to the constantly improving motion gaming.

I really hope that Sony pull this one off just right. It would suck to see yet another impressive piece of technology not living up to the hype, not because of the tech, but rather ’cause of the support. However, it seems like Sony got their back covered with a great deal of developers this time, which is a great thing for the gaming industry as a whole.
